Civic Park Chosen for ASLA Honor Award for General Design
Hemisfair’s Civic Park has received an Honor Award in the General Design Category for the 2026 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Professional Awards.
One of only 10 projects recognized in the General Design category from hundreds of submissions throughout United States and world, this 8.1-acre park in the heart of downtown San Antonio received this award for its excellence in landscape architecture and its lasting impact on the San Antonio community.
“Civic Park at Hemisfair has become a vibrant, multi-generational urban oasis that reconnects the city to its public spaces,” noted the Awards Jury. “The integration of topography, water features, and programmatic flexibility effectively balances ecological stewardship, play, and large-scale events.”
As the largest park in Hemisfair, Civic Park’s high-quality design and unique spaces reference and preserve history while incorporating P3 development that brings new offerings and amenities to our downtown area.
“We are honored that ASLA has recognized our efforts along with the City of San Antonio and the entire project team for Civic Park’s high-quality design that enriches San Antonians’ daily life as well as welcomes visitors to the area with its unique features and spaces,” said Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation’s (HPARC) Chief Executive Officer Melissa Robinson.
The ASLA awards ceremony will take place during the Conference on Landscape Architecture in Los Angeles from September 16-18, 2026, where Civic Park and the project teams will be celebrated for its innovation, stewardship, and lasting design excellence.
“Hemisfair is all about building connections to the amazing regional landscape, the city’s unique fabric, and most of all to the lives of San Antonians,” said David Malda, Design Principal at GGN, one of the key project team members. “Civic Park is a key piece of the larger urban transformation of a former World’s Fair site into a more livable and welcoming place.”
