Mural Ride Bike Tours Announced as New Tenant for Historic Tynan-Sweeney House at Hemisfair
Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) is honored to announce that Mural Ride Bike Tours, a locally owned tour company, has been chosen as the leasing tenant to activate the Tynan-Sweeney House as a hub for art, mobility, and community. By combining guided art tours, local retail, public e-mobility services, and rotating artist exhibits, Mural Ride furthers Hemisfair’s mission to connect people and place through authentic San Antonio culture. Mural Ride’s business at Hemisfair will include an indoor art gallery, local retail space, and The Spoke Spot, a multipurpose area for bike valet, e-bike and e-scooter charging, and outdoor community art programming.
“We are very excited about Mural Ride being a part of the experience the community can enjoy at Hemisfair,” said HPARC CEO Melissa Robinson. “Their tours connect locals and visitors to the city’s public art and creative neighborhoods through immersive storytelling and cycling experiences, which aligns with our vision to create one of the world’s great public places in San Antonio with a wealth of amenities.”
Through guided and self-guided cycling and walking experiences, Mural Ride explores and celebrates the city’s street art, creative culture, and historic neighborhoods. The Tynan-Sweeney House will operate as a headquarters for Mural Ride, rooted in local identity and showcasing diverse, rotating art exhibitions and live painting by muralists and creatives, as well as live music and other offerings with outside collaborators to bring even more vibrancy to downtown. The business will also utilize the space for meetings, creative workshops, and small gatherings, creating a welcoming and accessible place.
“The move to the Tynan-Sweeney House is the natural evolution of a mission for us that started on the streets of San Antonio years ago,” said Mural Ride Owner/Operator Brian Gregory Benavidez. “For years, we’ve been focused on getting more eyes on San Antonio’s street art and showing how cycling is a real way to move through the downtown corridor.”
Mural Ride’s Hemisfair business preserves the Tynan-Sweeney House’s unique history while layering in colorful, modern features and an immersive environment that honors Hemisfair’s mission to blend heritage, creativity, and public activation. The Mural Ride team will begin the buildout in Q2 2026 and debut its offerings to the public later on in the year. As a destination where creativity, sustainability, and local collaboration converge, Mural Ride strengthens Hemisfair’s identity as the place Where San Antonio Meets.
“Moving to a permanent home at Hemisfair finally gives us the opportunity to bring all of that together in one spot,” said Benavidez. “It’s a home base where we can put the spotlight on the artists and local brands we’ve been talking about for years, creating a space that reflects the creative energy of the city for both locals and tourists alike.”
The Hemisfair Conservancy was awarded a $942,997 FY2022 Community Project Funding (CPF) grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to support the rehabilitation of the Tynan-Sweeney House. The Tynan-Sweeney House, a historic building from c. 1868, is a 1,675 square foot structure. Located on E. Nueva Street in the Northwest Zone of Hemisfair, near the western edge of the District and directly across from La Villita, this building is noted as a “rare surviving example of vernacular construction.”
