The first park in the newly redeveloped Hemisfair will hold a grand opening October 3, 2015
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, August 3, 2015 –Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) has announced that Yanaguana Garden will officially open on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
Festivities will run all weekend, starting on First Friday, October 2nd. Friday evening, San Antonians can expect music, food trucks and fun activities for families in the park. Saturday morning will see the official ribbon cutting and all-day activities for children of all ages. Finishing the weekend-long celebration, Sunday, October 4th will focus on art, education and health. A full schedule of events will be released at a later date.
Entrance to the park is free, and opening weekend activities are open to the public. In addition to park features like climbing structures, swings, a splash pad and a sand digging area, Hemisfair will have music, interactive art demonstrations and other family-friendly activities planned throughout the weekend. Operating hours for the park will be from 7am-12am daily, including during grand opening festivities.
This announcement comes after three years of planning, design and development. Final designs for the park were announced in 2014, with construction beginning later that year. Construction and programming have been funded in part by generous contributions from the community to the Hemisfair Conservancy.
