Partnering with local businesses and organizations, Hemisfair is pleased to announce a twice-monthly movie series in Yanagauna Garden called Southtown Cinema.

Southtown Cinema runs the first and third Saturdays each month, August-December, and is free and open to the public. Each screening is brought to the community by a neighborhood business or organization, with each partner organization choosing which film to bring to the park. This includes Southtown Vinyl sponsoring School of Rock, Alamo Beer Company showing Three Amigos and La Frite Belgian Bistro running Ratatouille. Sponsors will be on site the night of their screening to provide activities, refreshments and information about their organization as appropriate.

Each event kicks off with a pre-screening  at 7:30 featuring live music, food, beer and cocktails by Frank’s, the gourmet hot dog spot recently opened in Southtown. Movies start at 8:30. Screenings begin at 8:30pm. The films are a mixture of contemporary hits like Guardians of the Galaxy to classic throwbacks like the Never Ending Story and the Karate Kid. The films are rated G, PG and PG-13. Parents are encouraged to use discretion when bringing young children to these screenings. The full schedule is:

Through activities like Southtown Cinema, the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) strives to deliver on its mission to bring beautiful public spaces that appeal to local San Antonians. Since its opening on October 3, 2015, the first phase of the Hemisfair redevelopment, the 4.1-acre Yanaguana Garden, has seen nearly 400,000 visitors, making it one of the busiest per-acre parks in the state. Support for future phases continues to remain high, including the Gustafson Guthrie Nichol (GGN) designed Civic Park.
