Dough and CommonWealth to Open at Yanaguana Garden
Two local businesses have been selected to open new options for food, drink and fun at Hemisfair: Dough Pizzeria Napoletana and CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery.
Each business brings something special to park-goers. Since opening in 2007, Dough has become the standard by which other pizzerias are measured. Their authentic pizza Napoletana follows the same traditional recipes used in Naples, Italy for centuries, with fresh local ingredients and a brick fire oven. Similarly, CommonWealth focuses on Parisian-style pastries and the freshest available coffee. The attention to quality, artfulness and delighting locals makes them right at home in San Antonio and at Hemisfair.
Dough will open at the corner of South Alamo Street and Cesar Chavez Boulevard in the historic OK Bar Building. The structure, currently in use by pop-up maker market Indigo, features a large open floorplan with concrete floors and an even larger patio area that fronts the park. CommonWealth, meanwhile, will be in Koehler House, fronting Hemisfair Boulevard and overlooking the popular splash pad and sand play areas on its shaded wooden deck.
Previously, Küntsler Brewery (formerly San Antonio Brewing Company) and Revolucion Coffee + Juice were selected to activate the two spaces, but when building delays caused the operators to seek other options, a second public selection process began. New and existing businesses were proposed by local chefs, restaurateurs, craftspeople and artisans. The selection was based on a passion for craft, product quality, business experience, ready capital and a match with the existing ecosystem with Paleteria San Antonio (which opened this summer) and Con Safos (a new fruteria, restaurant and bar set to open in early 2017). Together, Dough, CommonWealth, Con Safos and Paleteria San Antonio will offer a whole day of experiences for park guests, from light snacks, full meals and morning pick-me-ups to evening drinks and live entertainment.
