Construction of Yananguana Garden has Begun!

posted by on

August 21, 2014 (San Antonio, TX) — Construction has commenced on the first phase of Hemisfair’s redevelopment, Yanaguana Garden, the four-acre active play and recreational environment for all ages and abilities. This marks the groundbreaking for Hemisfair’s transformation, requested and designed by the San Antonio community through hundreds of workshops and public presentations.

A construction fence has been erected around the Yanaguana Garden site at South Alamo and Cesar Chavez Streets and an archeological investigation is underway. Excavation and construction of the site will be recorded so that designated archeological resources are preserved. An exciting discovery is the alignment of the original acequia wall. Yanaguana Garden design honors the historical water route with its water features and imaginative splash pad. The public can keep up with the exciting progress by accessing our website or following us on social media. Yanaguana Garden will open to the public in mid-2015.

Hemisfair will be more than just a park. It will be a district with multiple parks, plazas, courtyards, cafes, galleries, complete streets, residences and more. Yanaguana Garden will attract residents, strengthen the local community, and become the new world standard for innovative play.
