Second RFI details three opportunities within historic buildings at Hemisfair’s Yanaguana Garden

SAN ANTONIO, TX –The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation (HPARC) seeks proposals for new businesses to occupy three historic properties within its revitalized urban park district. .

The Request for Interest (RFI) released today details the historic structures in their current state and suggests appropriate uses. The three properties are referred to as Kampmann House, Longini-Herrmann House and the OK Bar. All three structures were constructed in the late 19th century, predating the 1968 World’s Fair and are recognized as State Archeological Landmarks (SALs). The OK Bar building was previously awarded to the San Antonio Brewing Company (SABC), but after much consideration both HPARC and SABC came to a consensus that the building’s footprint was too small to accommodate the brewery’s strategy, now making the property available to new local small business opportunities.

All three properties reside on public parkland and will be accessible through newly built park streets. Hemisfair seeks for tenants to serve as park activators, helping increase traffic to and activities at Yanaguana Garden. Appropriate uses may include restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, bookstores, craft shops and other retail uses, with park goer enjoyment as the focus. Since opening on October 3, 2015, Yanaguana Garden has hosted over 250,000 guests, averaging more than 8,000 visitors per week. These numbers are only expected to grow as future Hemisfair phases open, including parks, residences, offices, shops and restaurants.

This announcement follows an RFI released October 2014 for the first three historic structures at Yanaguana Garden, Pereida, Koehler and Espinoza Houses. Tenants for those houses are San Antonio B-Cycle and Paleteria San Antonio at Pereida House, Revolucion Coffee + Juice at Koehler House and Con Safos Cocina Fruteria y Bar at Espinoza House. B-Cycle and Paleteria San Antonio moved into Pereida in May; Revolucion and Con Safos open later this year.

Parties interested in applying for the RFI should visit www.hemisfair.org/RFI where they can find additional details about the properties and the application process. A non-mandatory pre-submittal presentation is scheduled for Wednesday June 1, 2016 at 3:00pm. All submittals must be received by 11:59PM on Sunday July 3, 2016.
